The Somali leader described the reopening of the national TV service as " good beginning and major progress for the people of Somalia" who have not seen state TV for almost two decades of lawlessness and chaos.

The Somali national TV has been among the state institutions that were ruined following the collapse of the former of Somali government led by the late president Mohamed Siyad Barre in 1991.

The Somali government has previously relaunched the state radio and newspaper to counter the growing Islamism propaganda by radical groups who operate two radio stations and recently launched a TV station of their own in Mogadishu.
